At McCurtain Memorial Hospital, we continuously strive to be prepared for any situation that may come through our doors. Our recent collaboration with Medical City provided our staff with additional training in a critical area—emergent obstetrics care.
Following the difficult decision to close our Obstetrics Department a few months ago, we understand that, despite this, emergencies involving childbirth can still arise in the Emergency Department. While it's not ideal, we want to ensure that our staff are fully prepared to handle such situations with the utmost care and expertise. This recent training session, which also included participation from McCurtain County EMS, was specifically designed to equip our team with the skills they need to confidently manage emergent obstetric cases.
As a critical access hospital, we see a large number of emergency cases each year, some of which require immediate and life-saving medical intervention. Even though we no longer have a dedicated obstetrics unit, we are committed to making sure our staff are ready for any circumstance, including unexpected births.
We are so proud of our team’s dedication to learning and growing in their roles. This training is just one more example of how our staff go above and beyond to ensure that every patient receives the best possible care. The next time you see one of our staff members in the community, be sure to thank them for their hard work and commitment—they are always ready to serve, even in the most unexpected situations.
